Giancarlo Esposito Imagined As DC’s Brainiac In Man Of Steel 2 Fan Art

  • November 23, 2022

New fan art for Man of Steel 2 imagines Giancarlo Esposito as the DC Comics villain Brainiac. After being absent from the DCU for years, Henry Cavill’s Superman has finally returned to the franchise as he appeared in the Black Adam post-credits scene. However, his brief encounter with Dwayne Johnson’s anti-hero is only the beginning for the British star, as Cavill has stated that his scene in Black Adam was only the beginning of things to come. While not confirmed by Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios, Man of Steel 2 is reportedly in active development with Cavill’s DC character.

While no filmmaker or writer is attached to Man of Steel 2, fans are already imagining what Superman villain will go up against Cavill’s character. Skull101ify, a graphic artist, recently designed what Esposito would look like as the iconic DC Comics foe Brainiac. While sharing it on Instagram, he also used voice audio of Esposito to give an idea of what Brainiac could sound like with the actor portraying him. Check out his work below:

Even though there are no rumors or reports that Esposito is in consideration for Brainiac, the iconic Superman baddie would be a solid choice for Man of Steel 2. It has almost been ten years since the first Man of Steel installment hit theaters, and while Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was co-headlined by Cavill, a proper sequel has yet to be made. As of late, Superman has been actively present on the small screen with Tyler Hoechlin in The CW’s Arrowverse franchise on Superman & Lois TV show, which is heading into season 3.

With the lack of Superman on the big screen, Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav has made it clear more than once that he wants the Man of Steel to have an active film franchise again. By the time Man of Steel 2 has happened, it will have been more than a decade since he had his own film, which means DC Studios will need to aim big for his sequel. Someone as huge as Brainiac has already been proven to work excellently in other Superman media, including Smallville and Krypton, played by James Marsters and Blake Ritson, respectively. Even Zack Snyder considered Brainiac to serve as the big bad if he had made Man of Steel 2.

Having someone as massively talented as Esposito, whose presence is always felt on-screen, as Brainiac would be a significant get for the DCU. Not only does Esposito consistently deliver powerful performances physically, but simply hearing his voice is enough to know that he is almost always a power player. Whether or not Man of Steel 2 ends up using Brainiac remains to be seen, but it would be a colossal way to relaunch Cavill’s franchise by having one of his most formidable foes come to life in the DCU. Hopefully, with Peter Safran and James Gunn’s DC Studios plans, Brainiac will ideally have a future in Cavill’s film series, whether it’s Man of Steel 2 or the following installments.
